And I mean fun! I had such a great time this past weekend at a Paper Cowgirl event. It was a Art Journaling class taught by the very talented and sweet Shelly Massey! So much fun spending an entire 2 days creating, laughing, and sharing stories. You can see more pics on the Paper Cowgirl Blog of all the wonderful messy fun we had with our journal pages. There are some amazing pages and a group photo of everyone. Thank you to my favorite head cowgirl, Cindy M., for organizing this event!
Here's a few of mine.
We started by creating backgrounds with paint. The background on these two pages turned out very dark and I wasn't liking them. But Shelly encouraged me to keep playing and turn them into something I did like. I am so glad she pushed me. You can see some of the original background in the middle of the flowers above, in the heart below, and peeking through in the background below. I took one of the backgrounds and cut it up to make the flowers and the heart. You can see how dark the flowers are but I like the contrast with the lighter background. Then for the one dark backgound below (which was same color as middle of flowers and heart) I just kept layering to lighten it up. Shelly was great at getting me to push through my layering "issues". LOL Thanks Shells! So I encourage you not to give up on something you think you might hate. I really love the way the end pages turned out even though I started with backgrounds that I hated!
The two pages below also started with backgrounds that I did not care for. Again I pushed myself to keep working with them until I got something I liked. The original background was dark and had a magazine picture of some flowers. You can barely see them peeking out from around the house on the left. So even though I covered up most of the original background it still adds to the depth of the page with the layers.
I really love the colors on these pages. Very happy with how they turned out.
You can see purple peeking out around the edges of this one which is the color of the original background. Did not like all the purple but love the little bit peeking out.
The weekend defintely helped me get out of my creative rut! I have tons of ideas swirling in my head now. Thanks fellow cowgirls for a wonderful weeeknd! Be sure and subscribe to the Paper Cowgirl blog because I know there are more fun classes coming up!
Oh and I will be opening my Etsy Shop back up in the next week or so. Kids are back in school so I have some time to tend shop! Yeah!
Until Later,
Cindy

What cool pages! Why is it that we make layering so difficult? So glad that you got the pushes that you needed, sooooo long rut!!!

Cute journal pages, Cindy. I need a creative art retreat. Really bad.
Love the new look to your blog too, it's bright and happy.
